UNDP assists agriculture and tourism in Adjara
PULICITY.GE.Tbilisi, Georgia, November 21, - 2011,On November 21, 2011, UNDP Resident Representative Jamie McGoldrick and Deputy Head Inita Paulovica are visiting Batumi. They plan to meet the Chairman of the Adjara Autonomous Republic government Levan Varshalomidze and sign agreements with the Ajara Tourism Department, Agriservice and the Batumi Professional Colleges. The new initiative focuses on agriculture and tourism industries, and on the development of trade. This initiative is funded by the government of Finland, UNDP and the Adjara Autonomous Republic government. UNDP will assist small farmers of the region to introduce new agriculture technologies and to become more effective in marketing and selling their products. Information and consultation service for farmers will be provided all over Ajara.
In the area of tourism, UNDP will closely work with the Ajara Tourism Department. UNDP will assist in assessing its needs and prospects and in revising a long-term tourism development strategy. UNDP will also help the Ajara Tourism Department to partner with the relevant agencies abroad and to better use ICT for providing 21st century tourism services.
UNDP will continue its support to professional education in Ajara and will work with professional colleges in Batumi for quality education in the areas of Information Technologies, tourism, food processing and construction.
The Trade Promotion Centre established with UNDP assistance in October 2011 will help Ajara businesses to access international markets and to get training in export and import operation.
